Who Can Participate?
The Sri Lanka Youth Mathematics Challenge welcomes enthusiastic participants from across the country.
University Students
Undergraduate students enrolled in any recognized university in Sri Lanka.
UNIVERSITY CATEGORYSchool Leavers
Students who have completed or are preparing to complete the G.C.E. Advanced Level Examination but are not yet enrolled in a university.
OPEN CATEGORYMath Enthusiasts
Any mathematics enthusiast who satisfies the age requirement of 26 years or younger on the competition date.
AGE ≤ 26Both categories will sit for the same examination paper, ensuring a common national standard while allowing every participant a fair and equal opportunity to compete.

Each medal winner also receives a Special Recognition Certificate.

Gold Honour Certificates
Top 10% of participants receive the prestigious Gold Honour Certificate.
Participation Certificates
Every registered participant receives an Official Verified E Certificate.
Guidance & Global Exposure
Participants will receive guidance towards the International Youth Maths Challenge (IYMC), and will have the opportunity to work with mathematics enthusiasts and researchers from both local and foreign regions.
Competition Timeline
Registration Opens
Registration portal opens for all undergraduate participants and math enthusiasts across Sri Lanka. Individuals welcome.
Training Sessions
3 to 4 official training sessions conducted by Mathematical Experts! Designed to introduce competition style mathematics, problem solving strategies, and examination format.
Written Examination
A 2 hour physical written examination at the University of Moratuwa starting at 1.15 p.m. Testing raw problem solving ability, logical deduction, and creative mathematical reasoning.
Prize Giving
Top performers will be awarded cash prizes, championship medals, Gold Honour Certificates, and Special Recognition Certificates at the grand ceremony.
Examination Scope
The competition paper will assess mathematical reasoning, creativity, and problem solving ability across several major areas.
Algebra
Polynomial equations, inequalities, functions, sequences, matrices, and algebraic reasoning.
Calculus
Limits, differentiation, integration, optimization, applications, and fundamental calculus concepts.
Geometry
Euclidean geometry, coordinate geometry, transformations, circles, triangles, and geometric proofs.
Number Theory
Divisibility, modular arithmetic, prime numbers, Diophantine equations, and mathematical properties of integers.
Combinatorics
Counting principles, permutations, combinations, recursion, graph based reasoning, and discrete mathematics.
Probability & Statistics
Probability distributions, counting methods, random variables, expectation, descriptive statistics, and elementary statistical reasoning.
The examination paper will be common to both University and Open categories.
